Often - the builders of streets would name them after family members, such as children etc.

I haven't just made that up -- a publisher of local books who studied his home town - has researched such things as street names and discovered that in many cases they seem to have been named after his children.

That won't always be the case of course.

I do find street names fascinating though and often wonder why they were so named.

Paradise St or the like - often looks like anything BUT Paradise now!

South of the railway Nellie Crescent along with Ada, Bertha and Elsie; Walter and Harry nearby.

Constructed after 1890 when the area was allotments, Richmond Hill Gardens.
