I found a death for Michael Brew 8th September 1878 Reg Cork address Curraheen Ballinora Married age 22 a Tailor. Death same date for Thomas Murphy age 16 same address Tailors Apprentice. The Coroners report states Homicidal. I am wondering if there would have been any report in newspapers. Michael Brew had only married in 1876 to Mary Lynch. THank you for any information

Hi
There are tons of newspaper reports for what happened that night.
Micheal Brew and James Murphy seem to be found dead on the railway line Cork to Macroom Railway

https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results/1878-09-01/1878-09-30?basicsearch=michael%20brew&somesearch=michael%20brew&country=ireland&retrievecountrycounts=false&mostspecificlocation=ireland&page=0

It seems to have created quite a few column inches.

Thank you does the report indicate they were killed by the train? I cannot read the full text of the newspapers without being registered.

They were on the train, the inquest found a problem with the sleepers which caused the train to derail, several carriages ended up on their sides, the coroner found the driver was not to blame but said he was determined to issue warrants for the arrest of a list of people ( mainly railway directors) for manslaughter due to the condition of the sleepers, hence the cert statement of homicidal.

I thought you might want this bit
Irish Examiner Sept 10 1878
Mrs Mary Brew was than sworn. She said “I live at No.1 Connoll’s Alley Hanover Street. I am widow of the deceased Michael Brew. I saw the body today and identified it as my husband. He left me yesterday morning at 10 o clock to go to Kilcrea to my father, and he was to return home by the Macroom train in the evening.

Thomas Murphy was travelling with him. It appears they went fairly often to visit Mary’s father.

Thank you Michael & Mary had only been married in 1876 but she remarried in 1883 to a Henry Ware. Marys maiden name was Lynch & it makes sense Michael was going to visit her father Michael Lynch who lived in Scart which is in Kilcrea area. I found Henry Ware & Mary in census of 1901 Gerald Griffin St cork Urban No 4 & there is a stepson Michael Ware but I cannot locate his birth record.I believe Mary Lynch comes from my ggrandmothers line of Lynchs from area of Scart.
Thank you again Sinann :)

1901 census shows Henry Weir, wife Mary, four daughters and a stepdaughter Mary Agnes Brew.

1911 census shows Henry & Mary Weir with stepson Michael Brew age 31-

IF census is correct then Michael born c1880 which is after death of Mary's husband Michael.
