Can this man find a link to any Welsh person in 60 seconds?

The Cymru Connection. Essentially: one minute, one country, one degree of separation.

The art of navigating networks, assessing overlaps and finding connections feels like a very familiar skill set in the work of family history research.

I'm glad not to be doing it as a spectator sport on live radio though!
BARTRAM - Nottingham, Derby, originally Beds (Stagsden)
PERFETT - St Pancras & Marylebone, Rugby, Nottingham
RADFORD - Nottinghamshire, also back & forth to Bury
RUDD - Durham, Margate, Bermondsey, Newcastle, Nottingham

Lovely feline in your picture! Much more interesting than that sounds! Surely tracing slowly and accurately is better and more accurate than lightening flash "research" by others!

I think he is right though when he says it is a Welsh, Scottish, Irish,North of England thing (and no doubt many other places). As soon as I hear a Scottish accent, outwith Scotland I have to ask “where you from, at the same time trying to pinpoint where the accent is from. It is incredible how often you find that they know someone you know.

Andrew C, that sounds sense. Someone in the checkout queue behind me one day said something, and I found myself immediately asking "What part of Canada do you come from?" and she was so delighted at not being taken for an American that we started chatting - and found she had relatives that came from the same area (Cumberland as was) that my ancestry came from!
Tiny world, indeed.

I have watched my Dad's cousin do this.    She is very good at it!!    Certainly a "Welsh thing"!   She may take more than 60 seconds - but she will usually get there :).   It is really fascinating to listen to her "zero in".....

My Dad has been in Canada for several years...it is quite surprising how often he can find a mutual  connection with other Welsh people we encounter on this side of the pond!

No, she didn't, she was in the line, but I recognised the timbre of the voice, and something of the phrasing, as well as the accent.

Fun pun Erato ...

Amazing at times where that 'small world' scenario comes up, has happened quite a number of times with us over the years though mostly with having just a mutual acquaintance or street in common, both at home and when travelling outside the country.

I was approached by two lovely Canadian sisters a few days ago as we were walking along opposite ways, just asking local area knowledge. They are visiting NZ from Vancouver as one had a daughter here working for a year, we've been there years ago and familiar places and the like but just a pleasant wee chat this time.

I do like to think also that I recognise accents and also faces reasonably well and if I know someone from 'somewhere'  :)
