My father in law’s WW2 Royal Artillery Service Record.
« on: Friday 07 March 25 22:34 GMT (UK) »
I applied over a year ago now for my late father in law’s WW2 Army Service Record, but have heard nothing.

I have read that some medal records are now on the National Archives Site, but can’t find him.

He was Alfred Ronald HOLMAN, 1918 - 1997.

He served with The Royal Artillery during WW2.

Is such a long wait for a Service Record usual?

Romilly.

Yes, I saw that too! It’s well over a year ago now since we applied, and it’s frustrating…

However, it used to cost £30, and is now free, and so perhaps lots of people have spotted that, - and hence the delay!

I have also read that WW2 Service Records are being digitalised and will eventually appear on the National Archives Site, and so this could be complicating things?

He’s just Alfred Holman on his Birth Certificate, but he hated the name and called himself Ron!

Records variously call him Alfred Ronald Holman or Ronald Alfred Holman. He was always known as ‘Ron’.
