Death of Emma Bromley nee Bradshaw
« on: Monday 03 March 25 23:37 GMT (UK) »
Lancashire couple Emma Bradshaw (b 1885) married Luke Bromley (b 1884) in April 1904 at St Thomas Church, Hyde. They had 4 children between 1904 and 1909, the youngest being born in Wales.

On the 1911 census their 3 surviving children are with their grandparents, James and Mary. Registration District Number: 468 Sub-registration district: Denton ED, institution, or vessel:10 Piece: 24395

On the same day, Luke is working as a miner in Wales with his brother. (Registration District Number: 585 Sub-registration district: Tredegar ED, institution, or vessel: 05 Household schedule number: 446 Piece 31852). Marital status is married, not widowed.

Luke remarried at Holy Trinity, Ashton-under-Lyne in 1919.

On the 1921 census is does state "mother dead" for the two children (Luke Jr and Thomas) still living with Luke and his new wife.

So some time between 1909 (last child born) / 1911 (Luke being married on the census) and 1919 when Luke remarries Emma, has died. But where is she on the 1911 census? When and where did she die?

Thank you.

As Luke says he's married in 1911, I wonder if Emma might be in an institution in 1911.

Do we have a birthplace for Emma or know who her parents were? **

Presuming Luke said he was a widower when he remarried not divorced or anything?

** father Thomas per the marriage - residence 12 Russell St Hyde so can see her in 1891/1901 at that address with widowed mother and siblings.  I wonder if she was with any of them.

Would there be any electoral rolls for where they were living in 1909 when we last see her?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Yes, thank you.
Her brother Jonathan was the only Bradshaw living at that address by the time of the 1911 census and by 1921 there were no longer any Bradshaws there.

(The standard of Ancestry transcriptions has declined massively, it seems. His occupation Carter for Tripe Dresser is recorded as Carter Fr Jrifu Dresser). I've corrected lots on my travels this week.
