Since the marriage took place in 1834, there is no father named.  The witnesses are of no assistance either.  Catherine signed her name and it is clearly Yarranton.

Experiment with saying it out loud in a variety of accents, it is not far from Herrington to Yarranton, if you drop the 'h' as might happen in Sussex.  Perhaps the registrar decided that Yarranton really ought to have the H  ???

Nell

two of the main families I am researching are Eltham and Annetts, I've frequently seen them written as Heltham and Hannetts or their multitude of variants. I don't think it was necessarily the official making the record thinking there ought to be an "H" but how my ancestors pronounced their name.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Thank you for your reply, but my query is with the mother's name.  Should be CATHERINE YARRANTON, but the Certificates I've been given states the mother is CAROLINE HERRINGTON.

In one of my files it mentions from 1837 to 1869 Patching was in the Petworth district.  If this is the case, perhaps I should be looking in the Petworth district for William's birth.  There is a record in Free BMD for a William BUTCHER in Petworth district, volume 7, p.410.
Can anyone help me with this one?

Patching was in WORTHING district between these dates

The Petworth entry you mention was in Quarter 3. A child baptised in march 1843 is unlikely to have their registration delayed until Q3.

Petworth William baptised at Rudgwick to George and Sarah on 24 Sep 1843

and possible burial at Rudgwick on 11 Jul 1844 age 11 months. So birth in Aug 1843, consistent with a Q3 registration and a September baptism. George and Sarah can be found on 1851 census in Rudgwick
