My great-grandfather, MICHAEL CULLEN died on the 24th August 1881 at his home in Carrick, Ballinlough, County Roscommon. He was 52 years old and was buried in Kiltullagh graveyard. Michael’s will was proved at Tuam by John Doyle of Cappagh, County Mayo, farmer and sole executor, which I have a copy of.
However there is no death certificate on the above website and I have tried searching with the alternative name used by some of my family in the past – Cullinane (with and without the “e”) to no avail. I just want to find out what the cause of death was at such a young age. Just wondering if any of our readers have any other sources for finding this death certificate?
Michael’s son, Dominick Cullen – my grandfather, of the same address – died on 18th May 1942 of old age and his certificate I found on the website, and likewise buried in Kiltullagh graveyard with his father and his wife, who pre-deceased him in 1925.
Dominick did make a will, or we are led to believe so, as he left two houses in the town of Ballinlough to my father and if such a will exists should contain all of this in detail. Just wondering if anyone has time, and/or know a source where such a will (if it exists) may be. I assume that in the year 1942 if you bequeathed property to your son that legally this must be in writing in some form of will, with a name change on the title, otherwise my father would not have been able to sell such properties years later!
I can tell you that in a court case (not relative to the above bequeathment) in 1940, my father was mentioned in relation to the said property where he was being assisted in some way financially by his brother, Joseph, when my father had been carrying out refurbishment work on the same house at this time.
This means we are looking at a date prior to 1940 if such a will exists. I am sorry for the long description but I hope someone may be able to help find either or both of these two documents
