Some Rootschatters start fine and many out of politeness want to help, but a few turn out to be parasites. Several years ago one became very demanding and totally ignored house rules, so eventually his posts were monitored and he chose to leave. Unfortunately, I had told him the village where I lived. Had he paid a visit, I am 6ft 5ins, built like a brick poo-house and can handle myself. Others have helped me, so I help others; that is the way it should be. If someone has helped you, please repay that by helping someone else.

Hear hear. I have had the rare RC member who I have added to my block list. I always go by the "If you do not have anything nice to say, don't say it at all" strategy.

Totally agree with you coombs; :)

All those mentioned are sorely missed on here.

But as most of us come to genealogy later in life that is just the reality that we will likely pass away.

I have instructed me Daughter if that is the case and its sudden she will notify other Chatters and Management.

I have been a member for donkeys years,  the only way I will leave is if I become  incapacitated  and not able to use it.

I joined here after I had an experience with another board, I was quite happy there till someone was out and out rude to me for no reason,  the mods on the board intervened,  they did me a favour

I think we're all a fairly good, amiable bunch on here. None of us are perhaps quite as young as we were, but we prop each other up, don't we?
-Keep on keeping on.

And I am off to Essex for a few days tomorrow to do some serious genealogy at Southend Library local studies and genealogy section. The old fashioned way is still one of the best ways.

Guy who is now sadly gone said he started his genealogy very, very, young at just 4 or 5 in about 1954, so he was interested for a very young age.

Totally agree with everything that`s already been said.

Guy was really knowledgeable, I used to like his posts.

I won`t say who it was, but there is one Rootschatter who was missing for ages. I`m sorry to say I thought the worst, but then they popped up again which was nice to see !

I was a regular for several years and had some fantastic help from many people. But things change and more recently genealogy hasn't been my main priority, so I don't post very often now, though I do check in fairly regularly just to see if anyone has posted in any of my areas of interest.

I was a regular YTGer and also posted photographs in the Tea Room. I made a number of friends, some of whom I still see on Facebook. I think that some of those people are no longer active in here but it's good to keep up with them in other ways.

I tell myself that I can always come back if I suddenly have the time to devote to finding more about my long lost ancestors. It has always been a very friendly and helpful group, so long may it last!    :) :) :)
