There's a woman in the family tree that I think was a prostitute.  She didn't marry and had at least five children over almost 20 years.  I've mentioned her here before.  She was found guilty of being a lewd woman and having a child chargeable to the parish, so was sent to prison for a year.  Can't quite see how that helped matters as now she wasn't available to care for her children.

I have found baptisms for most of her children.  The youngest was born in 1832, prior to registration.

Thanks all for your comments.
The baptisms you found - did they use her surname? was it all the same church? did the baptisms include age of the children i.e. how much time elapsed between births and baptisms?
