I once found a message in a floating bottle, while sailing in an estuary in Devon.  It had not been in the water many days, probably never quite been to sea.  There was an address near my home 300 miles away.  I wrote and received a reply, then realised the bottle thower was a pupil at my school - about five years younger.

The worlds oldest message in a bottle was discovered in a beach in Western Australia by the parents of Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo:
