Moitt Mowitt Family, Liverpool
« on: Saturday 15 February 25 14:05 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for any living relatives of William Henry Moitt / Mowitt - Known as 'Dixie'.  He was born in Liverpool 21 Dec 1907 and died in Kirkby 12 Oct 1982.  Dixie was married on 01 Feb 1930 to Elspeth Mary MacKay born Liverpool 21 May 1909 and died Knowsley Mar 1995. They had children:

Joan Mary Moitt 1930-?  married to Douglas Davies
William G 1931-2021 married to Joyce B Kelly
John  1933- ?
George H 1934-1986
James A 1936- ? married to Maureen I Gorry
Diane K 1937- ? married to Kenneth Rimmer
Terence K 1940- ? married to Elizabeth Fox

During his marriage to Elspeth he had an affair with Ethel Kathleen Moss (nee O'Donohoe) who was a widow with 2 children.  This union resulted in my mum, Laurenna Davies (Nee Moss) on 02 April 1940, just 3 months after Terence was born.

I'm certain Dixie knew about my mum but I don't know if he and Ethel (my nan) had any further contact.

I have verified all this information through DNA, where a lot of the grandchildren of the above also appearing on my DNA matches as 1st or 2nd Cousins.  I have been in contact with a couple of my cousins but they didn't have any contact with Dixie as he appeared to be estranged from his family at some point.

I don't wish to intrude on anyone's life but I have this need to know about Dixie - who is my grandad.  If he had an affair with my nan and produced a child, did he have any other affairs which might have produced more children?  Am I correct in guessing that the estrangement from his family - his own children with Elspeth - was due to him having an affair/affairs and did they know they had a half sister the same age as Kenneth?

All I want is some insight into Dixies' existence and answers to my queries, as above.  I don't wish to form relationships with any half aunties / uncles / cousins if they don't wish to.

Thank you

Are you sure that all of the people have named have died.  Rootschat does not allow us to name anyone who is possibly living so you would need to remove their names where necessary.

If they are all deceased - Please provide the years of death for the people with question marks & also of their spouses you have named.

We have to protect peoples privacy hence the ruling re living people.  My sister was born 1929 & is very much alive.  I have today been chatting to my neighbours mum who was b 1927

This sort of research is difficult. The way I approached similar research was to message one of the family who had a tree on Ancestry. In my case they stopped communicating with me! I got the feeling they went back to their mother or someone, told them about the message and got told to not get involved. Tread carefully with this bringing something sensitive up from the past can freak people out.

The reason I have put ? Against some is that there are varying dates of death. I’ll put the one that’s on ancestry as they seem to be more reliable. Thsnks
