John Elliott of Coventry
« on: Tuesday 11 February 25 16:11 GMT (UK) »
Anyone able to help please with better access to Coventry parish registers. I have FindMyPast access but for what I'm looking at it only gives a transcript.

My John Elliott married Mary Scott in Coventry on 23 Nov 1778, the transcript doesn't give the church.

I believe his baptism was 4 Jan 1755, again Coventry but again no church. The transcript again gives mother as Ann Elliott but no father. I'm left thing John is an illegitimate child to Ann Elliott

John and Mary have 7 children all baptised at St Marys in nearby Walsgrave on Sowe. They are both buried there, 1804 and 1802. They could have had those 7 children in Coventry and after moving to Walsgrave then had them baptised, certainly 5 of them were all baptised on the same day 1 Jun 1789.

Thanks if you are able to help.

Hi Pennines, not sure I know what ‘select’ means, maybe an ancestry term? But thanks for the St. Michael info. Hopefully someone has access to their records here.

Ancestry have a 'dataset' of something they have named 'Select marriages'. Why - I have no idea!!

They are transcriptions - but this one happened to name the Church.

Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

I think the original marriage register is lost. Destroyed by enemy action :(

Thanks but it won’t let me view it. I don’t have a Familysearch account. I use FindmyPast. Although you’ve both concentrated on his marriage, which is great, I now have the church, his baptism is my main aim to see if a father was given.
