Riley Family - Lancashire - Joseph Riley b. c1798
« on: Monday 10 February 25 21:32 GMT (UK) »
Hello chaps,

I'm a Riley living in Lancashire, 30, I'm looking for descendants of my earliest known relative Joseph Riley b. c1798

My family history can be found on this website: https://camptonfamily.uk/riley-family/

My link to this family tree is my g.g.grandfather Henry Riley b. c1886 - he had 8 siblings - I believe 5 died before reaching the age of 10, but 2 of his brothers and his sister survived, alas they we're estranged, though I would like to meet any living relatives if they're still in Lancashire.

If I do have any relatives reading this message I'd be curious to know if you have any information on Joseph Riley - in any case, recent information about your closest relatives would allow for me to create a more complete version of our family tree  :)

Warm regards,
James Riley

Where in Lancashire?
A person named Riley was witness to my paternal grandparents marriage in 1896.
This was in Manchester ,near the city centre ,an area known as Collyhurst .
Written about by Engels ,as ‘ “The worst slum in Europe” .
Nevertheless there were good respectable families there ,the conditions were imposed upon the people, they did not create  them .
A long shot but just a chance it might help.
Viktoria.
I don’t have access to my records just now but Henry Addy married Mary Blakemore in 1896 at St Catherine’s Collyhurst
Addresses were Bronze Street and Worth Street.

Hi,

Yeah I checked that chat and commented also, none of the families mentioned in that thread are included on my family tree, though they may be relatives without knowing. I left a few people messages about their 18th and 19th century relatives.

Thanks
James

Hi,

My Riley family spans nine generations over 200 years and dates back to the late 18th century and the birth of Joseph Riley around 1798. Many of his descendants were born in the heart of London, particularly in the areas north of the river in Islington and Hackney.

Though my family roots w/ my g.g.grandfather and his parents seem to be based in Accrington/Burnley - there's probably a story behind that movement from London to Lancashire but I'm not aware of it.

Regarding your grandparents marriage, that year suggests it could have been one of my 3rd gen relatives perhaps; impossible for me to know. There's over 10,000 Riley families in Lancashire so probably unlikely to be one of my relatives tbh.

Thanks
James

There are some trees on Ancestry by descendants of Henry Riley.

One has Joseph born in 1792 in Romford, Essex.

On another thread you have posted:

Also, I just found a chart for the Riley family tree ^_^

https://camptonfamily.uk/riley-family/

My family chain branches off from Henry Riley (b. c1886)

Do you have records to link you to this Henry?
At what point do his descendants move to Lancashire?
Is he the Henry Arthur Riley born in Southwark and died in Cornwall?

It is best to go back from yourself - not naming anyone who is still living though on here.
Do you have an ancestor in 1921 or 1911 census records, for example?
