Early Clements Omagh Clogherny Fernaghandrum
« on: Monday 10 February 25 16:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am interested in the Clements family living around Omagh and Clogher and any information on their early origins or any of the family that have ended up living of outside Tyrone. Anything at all appreciated. The townland of Fernaghandrum (sometimes spelt Fernandrum) is of particular interest.

Many thanks

Christine Clements

A warm welcome to Rootschat

Your post is a little vague as to names and ages.

The census in 1901 would be a good starting point

You could look on Griffiths Valuation to see if the family was in Tyrone at that stage

For finding BDM after the date when registration began you can search here

Here is some information about Fernaghandrum Townland

Thank you so much. I have now gone through all the Clements records on the Irish Geneology website and picked out all the ones related to this townland. It took quite a while!
I wonder how would i see when they came to Fernaghandrum. The landlord is called Francis J Gervais - it would be great if there were records from his estate so i could see when they arrived. I doubt this is possible though there seems to be very few records in Tyrone before 1840's

James, Joseph & Susan Clements farming in Fernandrum in the tithe applotment records in 1825:

https://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/tyrone/tithe-applotment-books/parish-of-clogher.php

3 separate farms. Susan is likely to be a widow.

Probate abstracts:

Probate of the Will of the late James Clements, Farnaghandrum, Co. Tyrone, Farmer, who died 7 March 1905, granted at Armagh 2 April 1919 to James Chambers, Medical Doctor. Effects: £446 5s.

The Will of John Clements late of Fernaghandrum County Tyrone Farmer who died 26 July 1885 at same place was proved at Armagh by Robert Orr Clements of Greenmount Gentleman and John Irwin of Killadroy Farmer both in said County the Executors.

Above 2 wills are on-line on the PRONI wills site.

Clements, Mary of Fernaghandrum Omagh county Tyrone widow died 26 August 1939 Administration Londonderry 15 April to Mary Marshall widow. Effects £52 3s.

Clements, Robert of Fernaghandrum Gortaclare Omagh county Tyrone retired farmer died 25 June 1968 at Tyrone County Hospital Omagh county Tyrone Administration Londonderry 1 August to Rebecca Clements spinster. Effects £4494 7s.

Administration of the Estate of Thomas Clements late of Fernaghandrum County Tyrone Farmer who died 31 December 1921 granted at Londonderry to John Caldwell Clements Salesman Effects £595

Above 3 probate files should be in PRONI in paper format.

Newry Telegraph of 3rd Jan 1843 reported the marriage on 31st ult at Clogher Cathedral of William Clements, 3rd son of Joseph Clements, Fernaghandrum House, to Catherine, eldest daughter of W M Moffit, Legacurry, near Omagh.

The landlord for Fernandrum was the Rev F. Gervais of Armagh.

The family appears to have been Presbyterian judging by the 1901 census anyway. If they attended Carntall/Clogher Presbyterian church then it has baptism records starting 1819 and marriages 1829 (copies of which are in PRONI).
