Kent burial lookup....maybe
« on: Wednesday 29 January 25 06:18 GMT (UK) »
I have this record: "Original record link https://cityark.medway.gov.uk/wwwopacx/wwwopac.ashx?command=getcontent&server=files&value=P252-01-02(2).pdf
Burial date 18 Dec 1810
Record set Kent Burials
Place Milton-Next-Gravesend, Ss Peter & Paul" from findmypast
but when I go to the site it appears to just be a hand written list (maybe just a handwritten transcript list).  I was trying to find if there was a better record or maybe an "original" record of the death but I can't seem to navigate around the site very well to see.  I'm looking to get a copy of Michael Lee's death buried 18 December 1810.  He's a royal navy man.  Would it maybe be a better one in Chatham?  Any assistance appreciated.  Thx

The image on your link is the burial register.
There will not be a death certificate as the date is well before civil registration.

How do you know this is your Michael Lee? There is no age or occupation recorded.
I see there is another burial for another Michael Lee in Woolwich in July 1810.

Not sure how to reply individually.  Hopefully you will both see this.  First I know there are no death certificates for this period of time.  I was hoping this was just a written list hand copied from an original burial record and that possibly there might be a direct from the register image that would better.  Just a hope, nothing more.

Second, I know he died in 1810 from his Naval records, I also know his age from what his wife wrote regarding their marriage in her pension request.  He could very well have been buried in Woolwich, but I'm thinking more likely the other.  I really don't know.  Neither record may show any other information.  I am just hoping it does.  All I could see from the (not Woolwich) was the handwritten plain list which may well be the original record and all there is.

Many thanks.

Well I'm looking at a map now and it looks like Woolwich might be the right choice.  He has a couple of kids being born in Greenwich and his wife is still there in 1840.  (Teach me not to check maps first.)  Let me see if I can access Woolwich.  I find that site complicated.  Many thanks!

As I explained, what you are calling "a list" is an image of the original burial register. Unfortunately no other information has been recorded against the names of the individuals who were buried. On some burial records you do get a mention of age, or some other snippet of information which can be helpful. On this record, it is not the case.

There were military barracks at Woolwich, and the Royal Navy dockyards were also at Woolwich.
If you know your man died in 1810 and he was in the army / navy, it is more likely that the correct burial is the one on 28 Jul 1810 at Woolwich St Mary Magdalene.

Your right about Woolwich.  I do have all his naval/pension etc records and was just looking thru them again and he did die July.  I emailed the FH society that covers Woolwich and they said that Ancestry has Woolwich records, but the original record is not on there.  Anyway, still looking lol.  Thanks.

With a burial record, it is unlikely to have much information. The transcription will probably give you all the same information.
