Many thanks to you all, it’s given me food for thought.
My dad actually lived in a big house in Islington, the family shared it with an old lady and another couple. He remembered having two bedrooms at the top of the house and a kitchen in the basement which they mostly lived in. I wish I’d asked him how it all worked with the other people in the house.. sadly, too late now.
