Ann Shetton and James Jones
« on: Sunday 26 January 25 08:56 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to find the birth of Ann Shetton, census's from after her marriage to James Jones on 18 May 1837 in Landenny in Monmouthshire show her as being born in Trellleck between 1818 and 1822.

So pretty young when marrying James. The problem I have there is no birth as I can see for Trelleck for an Ann Shetton. Then I noticed she was a widow.

I made a list of all the Ann's born in Trelleck between 1810 and 1822 so that I could try and match one of them marrying a man called Shetton but could not find any in the area, and with her age as suggested it could not have been that much further bac kin time to her second marriage to James.

Anyone know where I can look, I have Ancestry but not helped. Shetton does not seem to be a common surname and I have searched with variants on as well.

kind regards
Ian

Small point I read the burial year as 1837.

Is it not possible that Shetton was her former married name?

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Could this be Ann?

1841 Ragland Lower,  Raglan,  Llandenny
James JONES, 40 Farmer, Ann JONES 30 + 3 servants

If this is Ann, this would be born 1807-1811, the 1841 was rounded down to nearest 5.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thanks ColC

For me that age sounds much better than the later census's in, as I was finding it difficult (but not impossible) for someone who was born 1818-1822 to be married twice by 1837. Maybe they just knocked 10 years of her age when she got older on the later Census's :) not unheard of

Isn't it possible that she was a minor and John Miles was her father?
Richard Wernham (Berkshire 18th century),
William Hissey (1805 to 1813, Hampstead Norris),
Kapirin (Siberia 19th Century),
Kitching 1850,
Mary Howse born 1806 ish,
Chris Truelove marr. John Pocock 2-7-1696, Kintbury, Berks

Alas John Miles is the vicar I believe as he acted as one of the witnesses on all the marriages on the same page as theirs

Could it be Shelton?

Did they have any children?
MMN will be on GRO if so.

Also possible he married another Ann after 1841 Census.

Thomas Jones was the Rector (Vicar) according to their marriage.   John Miles was probably a Church warden or similar
