Iligitmate children question - High Abbotside
« on: Thursday 23 January 25 18:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi it's Daniel hope you're well,

Just a quick one if anyone can enlighten me on this thought... I've been doing work on my ancestors that lived in the Wensleydale area in the 1800s/early 1900s and I've noticed that most of some of my ancestors who lived in the High Abbotside area we're Illegitimate but yet they still lived with their biological familes... it's not just one branch of the family there's quite a few which are in the same position.... my point I'm making is that wouldn't it have been like a taboo thing? I mean I've watched episodes from long lost family and other family history episodes and they were given up for adoption or another family took them in?.... but it doesn't seem the case in this scenario? can anyone please shed any light and put my mind at rest? Thanks

If you lived in a village, everyone knew so what was there to hide.
