Register of Acts and Decreets
« on: Tuesday 21 January 25 18:54 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me what a Register of Acts and Decreets is?

I've come across a record on Ancestry which takes me to another pay-per-view site.

It's regarding a man called Lieutenant Alexander Barneston (Burniston). The Decree date is 26 February 1826 and also says:

Decreet, John George Boeme and Mandatories V Lieut Alexander Barneston Or Barnetson
Wright (West Ham, Stratford, Cripplegate)
Widenstrom (Chicago and Minnesota)
Swain (Cripplegate, St Lukes)
Wolfe (St Giles in the Fields)
Willis (Gt. Leighs; Brentford)
Bryant (Bristol, Glos)
Searle (Kent/Surrey)
Keyworth (Yorkshire)
Biggs (Harrow Weald)
Collins (Harrow Weald and Wiltshire)
Langston (Harrow Weald)

At a guess, I would say it's to do with divorce?

Mandatory, a term in Scots law. The online Dictionaries of the Scots language (https://dsl.ac.uk) give the meaning as: I. n. Sc. legal usage, from Civil Law: a contract by which one person agrees to act (strictly gratuitously) as agent for another in the management of his affairs, or in conducting some special business (Sc. 1946 A. D. Gibb Legal Terms 54). Hence mandatory, -ary, one to whom a mandate is given; mandant, mandatar, -or.

There is a notice in a London paper (The Courier) of 22-3-1828 to the creditors of "John George Boeme, late of Conduit-street, Bond-street, in the parish of St. George, Hanover-square, in the county of Middlesex, tailor, deceased (who died on or about the month of March, 1826)."

Perhaps Alexander was being pursued by Boeme's estate for his tailor's bill. Alexander Barnetson is mentioned a number of times in the newspapers, mostly references to his military promotions etc.

I will be going there next week, so if you want I can get a copy for you. CS43/96 is the decree which is simply a copy of the final decision, but CS44/96/62 is the original case papers of the process although sometimes not everything is present if parts were borrowed.
As someone already mentioned, he is probably being chased up to pay the money owed to the now deceased tailor.
