Alberbury Shropshire Jones's
« on: Sunday 19 January 25 12:19 GMT (UK) »
I have a Thomas Jones who in 1851 is living in Bilston Staffs, married to Elizabeth in 1871 still living in Bilston with Elizabeth and still working as a labourer in a Colliery, his birth place despite conflicting spelling would appear to be Alberbury Shropshire, his wife is down as being born in Wales.. in 1851 they have lodgers also named Jones a son in law Alexander from Ruabon Denbighshire and 2 others also from Ruabon and named Jones so first question..

If Thomas was born in Alberbury in 1799 I have found 3 baptisms one 26/01/1800 son of Thomas and Diana, 2nd son of Thomas and Margaret on 16/11/1800 and 3rd son of Maurice and Mary on 09/08/1801 I have discounted the last due to the time difference and fathers name, any way to confirm which is correct please I have not found any other baptisms but then he may not have been baptised in Alberbury.

I also have a wedding certificate for a Thomas Jones and an Elizabeth Roberts dated 30/09/1842 Thomas is a batchelor his father being John Jones a farmer Elizabeths father is Robert Roberts also a farmer, the church appears to be in Llandrith yr Rhos in Denbighshire.

Q1 any thoughts and whether the wedding is of my Thomas who in 1871 is living in Bilston.
Q2 any thoughts as to the Baptism given that the fathers on all 3 were not John but Thomas.

There are a lot of Jones's about...
Any help and advice appreciated.
Jib

Baptism St Leonards, Bilston  :-\
Thomas son of Thomas & Elizabeth - 19th April 1829

There are a few Jones children baptised at Bilston around that time with parents named Thomas and Elizabeth

Didn't know about Nimrod but then not sure where he fits in, or what his relationship is to Thomas, he certainly moves around from Denbigh to Swansea to Bilston he seems to have a younger brother who was born in Denbigh aged 10, will look again at the parish records for Abberbury it looks as though the family may have been in the Ruabon area as the son in law comes from this area before moving down to Bilston, maybe Mary is his mother who moved down to Bilston with the rest of the family, the grandaughter..

Might be a total coincidence but Alexander and Ann have a daughter named Diana - might point to her grandmother?

I think that is a good point, I discounted the father being Maurice as there do not seem to be any Maurice’s in the family, and the baptism date fits closer to his age for that with his parents being Thomas and Diana I will check the records I have for Abberbury to see if I can find a marriage for them I am sure there is a link with Ruabon as the son Alexander is back there with his family in 1871 and one of his children was born there, thanks for lighting the spark..
