Alexander Angus 1721-1793
« on: Friday 17 January 25 23:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am searching for any information on an Alexander Angus who died aged 72, roadside in Whitechapel in 1793 pls. I know he married Mary Clarke in 1760 at St Mary at Hill in London and they had a number of children together. I believe his occupation was a victualler and he lived in the Stepney, Wapping Miniories area.
There is information of an Alexander Angus who was born in Scotland in 1721 in Edinburgh son of Thomas Angus, but I have recently found that an Alexander Angus died at a mere 25days old and was the son of Thomas from Edinburgh.
I am hoping that someone could pls assist me in locating the correct birth date and location for the Alexander Angus who died in 1793. Interestingly there is no records of him between 1721-1760. Thanks

Have you got a full list of his children. It might be possible to work out potential parents from names of children. I have found six but there are gaps, so possibly some more. The baptism of John on 18 Jul 1779 at St George in the East, gives residence as Betts Street and confirms occupation as victualler.

I found a William as well bapt 20 May 1770, father occupation victualler residence Old Gravel lane (early children also in Old Gravel Lane). Are you sure of Agnes's date, that would mean mary was giving birth over a 27 year time period. Not impossible, but it would make her barely 20 at marriage.

But it would be nice to confirm Agnes as I have found a baptism of an Alexander Angus in Perthshire in 1723 s/o William and Agnes. Can't find this Alexander in Perthshire later. Age at death is only as good as the informant knows, or Alexander from Perthshire might have been baptised at 1 or 2 years old.

Agnes is a false lead, looked again she was born in Manchester please accept my apologies and disregard. I think you are right given the names
