Reades of County Kilkenny
« on: Friday 17 January 25 12:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm looking for any information on Michael Reade, born on or around 3 Oct 1854 in Mullinavat, Co. Kilkenny to Thomas Reade and Johanna Mackey. I have his baptism certificate but no other details. Family lore has him leaving Kilkenny for New York with his brother Patrick in about 1885. Patrick travelled on to Australia, where he married Annie Shannon in 1886. I have searched Ancestry, FindMyPast, MyHeritage, and FamilySearch but have been unable to identify any records that show Patrick and Michael travelling either together or separately and no DNA links to any descendants of Michael have popped up so far. I know Patrick was in Ireland in Nov 1881 (witness on his mother's death certificate) so they must have travelled between 1881-1886. I would be most appreciative of any assistance that might be provided to help follow up on what happened to Michael. Kind regards

Here's the death record of Johanna Reade. She died on 8 August 1881 at Ballynoony East townland, and as you say her son Pat(t) was the informant.

Mullinavat townland is only about 5 km to the south-west.

OP - if you have no records, then how do you know they travelled to New York and then to the Antipodes? All within a year? Seems like a strange, and very long-way-about way to get there.....

Further, death rates were high on all these travels at the time. Michael could have died or never married.
