History of a village name

I know this is not the right place to ask, but.

I'm looking of some help in finding the history of a village/hamlet of how its name come about other than National Archive etc.

Can anyone suggest any websites which may help to research.

'Goose Eye' near Oakworth, Yorks.

  You will probably need to get in touch with local history societies in the area, or the West Yorkshire archive service.
   There is section on Rootschat for West Yorkshire - look under Forum and scroll down. Someone there may be able to help.

The village was originally called ‘Goose Heights’, which the local dialect contracted to ‘Goose Ay’, and thence to the name we know today.

Thanks to KG's contribution, we understand the meaning of this place.  If it had been further south it might easily have been assumed to be a small island  :D .
