Rebecca Dodds Hannah
« on: Tuesday 14 January 25 21:48 GMT (UK) »
I've hit a brick wall trying to track down what happened to Rebecca Hannah (maiden name Dodds).
She's born to John Dods (1834-1898) and Isabella Adams (1838-1912) on the 3rd of March 1857 in Dundee and can be reliably tracked on the 1861 census living with her family in Glasgow and on the 1871 census working as a servant.

On the 10th July 1877 in Rutherglen, she marries Adam Arthur Hannah. The pair are both listed as living at 8 Gallowflat Place and working as a tailor and tailoress respectively.
On the 8th November 1878, Adam dies and this is the last place I can find Rebecca. Adam is listed as residing at 170 Thomson St, Dennistoun, so presumably this is also her address.

By the 1881 census, she's disappeared. She's not buried with her parents in their lair (though neither are most of her siblings so this isn't surprising) and there are no marriages or deaths for Rebecca Hannah or Dodds between 1878 and 1881.

I've tried searching for her in Canadian, American and English records as well but no luck. Does anyone have any advice?

Rebecca Dodds or Duncan or Arthur died in Glasgow in 1925 aged 67. Her parents were John Dodds and Isabella Adams and she was the widow of Adam Arthur and William Duncan.

It would appear that her son David Duncan, who registered the death, thought that her first husband was Adam Arthur not Adam Arthur Hannah.

Perhaps not surprising, as Rebecca Arthur married William Duncan in 1880. She should be indexed as both Dodds and Hannah, but maybe she didn't tell the registrar what her real names were.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you so much! She's not indexed as Hannah or Dods on the Scotland's People website for her second marriage so no wonder I missed her.
