Sanders-Fursden marriage 1853
« on: Wednesday 08 January 25 20:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I have a copy of the marriage certificate for John Sanders and Thomasin Fursden, married 05.06.1853 in Stoke Damerel. Both born about 1833 in Hatherleigh. I have census records from 1861 onwards. The marriage certificate shows their fathers as James Sanders (gardener) and James Fursden (farmer).

I'm trying to trace both families back but the only Thomasin Fursden I have found is the daughter of Thomas Fursden (ag lab). My theory is the name is wrong on the marriage certificate, and the name James was just written for both. I'm looking for any evidence to prove/disprove I have the right family.

I also have a John Sanders with father James living in Hatherleigh in 1841, but again I'm looking at a way to prove this is the right person.

Thomasin's surname is Fursdon on the marriage register

https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBPRS%2FPLY%2F004634237%2F00224&parentid=GBPRS%2FM%2F35059376%2F2

Thomas Fursdon is one of the witnesses, and he was married on the same day, his father also recorded as James.

FindMyPast is telling me that I've looked at these records before....

Apologies, I didn't realise I'd asked this two and a half years ago! I'm still a bit unsure of the right answer.

Hello

It does make James a bit younger than 1833 and his wife Thomasin possibly baptised 10.3.1833 d of Thomas and Elizabeth Fursden.
James Sanders was baptised 3.4.1836 to James and Mary  Sanders labourer at Hatherleigh.

Thanks for this. It was John Sanders who married Thomasine, a baptism in December 1832 fits with the census and the rough date of birth of 1833.
