The Commonwealth War Graves Commission have the soldier with Service Number 1681 as Thomas Magee. Medals were also issued to a Thomas Magee who had that Service Number.

Both the 1891 and 1901 Censuses have a Sarah Magee living in Manchester with sons Thomas born 1886 and Bartholomew born 1889. I cannot find any information re Bartholomew having enlisted although I'm sure he probably did, nor can I find a death or a Census entry after 1901.

It looks like Bartholomew enlisted using his brother's name for some reason.

Thomas survived until 1964 per this tree https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/200948583/person/252633761993/facts

How do you know he used his brothers name.

That’s what I get.
So I know Thomas is alive till the 60s
It’s got to be Bart.

His service number 1681 gives an attestation date of early-mid 1910.
The 1/Mancs. were in India at the time hence no appearance on the 1911 census.

It's a logical deduction. All the army records are in the name of Thomas but the family announcement tells us it was actually Bartholomew.
