Managing my sister's dna on ancestry
« on: Sunday 05 January 25 15:38 GMT (UK) »
Happy New Year to you all

My sister's dna was tested on ancestry. As the family historian and being more computer literate than she is, I arranged it all and I am her dna manager.
Is there a way I can link her test to my tree so that dna matches show up when I am am working in my tree, or do I have to sort through all 20,000 of her matches to find the links manually?

If you officially manage her dna in Ancestry then you can go link her dna to her in any of your trees so that her dna results will also be available to you.  Make sure she is a person in the same tree as yourself and then link her results to her in that tree.

I don't like putting live people in my tree, but I'll try that

Even if your tree is public Ancestry do not display details of living individuals.

The link to make is accessed in DNA settings.

You can link the DNA you manage to the person whose sample it is in any tree.

The link does not have to be in the same tree as yourself.

Hello

I think I've found what I was looking for, but am not sure if it's only because I added my sister to the tree.

In tree view, click on an ancestor and you have the option to add dna matches to that person.

If you click on that you are given matches to add to your tree if you wish. I don't really want to add other people's work to my tree without checking it first, but it is an easy way to find if you have matches to that person.

thanks for all the help

Avril

Dont add matches from tree view.

Along the Ancestry heading banner there is one for DNA which gives a drop down list when clicked on.

Choose the second option 'matches' and click on that.  It should give matches for yourself but if you have added the management of your sister's dna correctly there should be a drop down arrow next to your name, which if you click on it, will give you the option of seeing the dna matches for whomever elses test you manage - including that of your sister.

You can then study these individually and decde if they are correct before adding them.

Click on DNA in the Menu

Click the Drop Down Arrow next to the name, and select the person you want.

Then when the screen refreshes under the name Summary should be highlighted.

If it is not click on it to highlight.

You will see a Gear symbol and text DNA settings, click on it and then you will be presented with the options where you will find the section to link the DNA results to the person in the tree.
