Maydown Trunk Road Improvement scheme 1960
« on: Sunday 05 January 25 11:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, long shot but I wondered if anyone knew if there was a way to access or view the map referred to in the vesting order made for the lands in this article attached, in 1961? The two areas of land mentioned for Maydown belonged to my ancestors and I’d love to learn a bit more re the location / size of land they owned at the time. Thompson was the last to own the Ross farmland in Maydown and passed away in 1973 (no will) so I’m wondering if he just bit the bullet and sold the whole lot (he’d have been late 70/early 80 by this point); he had no children, his siblings had passed away and what relatives he had remaining he had become estranged from.

Thanks in advance for any guidance that can be offered  :)

I’ll definitely pop them an email, thank you! I admit, I still struggle to find my way around the Proni website.

Thank you so much Kiltaglassan ☺️

Lara,

The Valuation Revision records (on the PRONI website - VAL/12/B/32/12F) show that in 1929, Thomas Ross had the following land in Maydown:

Plot 3 - 34 acres
Plot 3a - 1 acre of plantation
Plot 5 = 2 acres

Plot 4 was owned by James Ross and was just under 3 acres.

None of those plots had houses occupied by anyone named Ross, so I presume they lived elsewhere (in a nearby townland). There were 3 cottages on plot 5 but Thomas Ross was letting them out to other folk.

The land had all been purchased under the provisions of the Land Act in 1912.
