WW1 Pension Records
« on: Friday 03 January 25 19:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
wondered if anyone could explain this to me.
While doing family research, I found a reference to a WW1 Pension Record for the husband of an ancestor.
It refers to Daniel Cooper born 1894 in Kirkintilloch. The document year is 1911. (making Daniel 17)
His Reg number is 1441 and this is the bit that confuses me it reads A and S Hussars???
look forward to any replies
kind regards
Thomas Owen

FindMyPast have transcribed it to mean Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.
Is it his Service record you have?

War Badge document confirms above detail.

He Enlisted 18 April 1911 and was Discharged 19 September 1914

When do you have Birth Date in 1894 ?

Looks like he was Territorial Force and 17 was OK unless his Parents produced a Birth Certificate that he was under 17 in which case he could  be Discharged for making a False Statement

- He was Discharged under King's Regulations 156 xi aged 20 on 19 September 1914
and was Not entitled to any Medals
as he did not go Overseas in WW1 - before Discharged

But he was awarded a Silver War Badge to show he had Served

You can buy the service record without a subscription, probably cost about £1.50. Eight images to download on payment.

The Records you Probably found were his Attestation Papers and Discharge Reccrds scanned on Ancestry under Pension Records it clearly shows he stated he was Aged 17 years 10 months

Did you Read all the Pages including his Letter to the Army Records?
