I am so confused by parishes etc in East London! Hopefully someone can help.
I am trying to find a birth record for a Mary Ann Conner.
Her parents George Conner and Mary Ann Smith married in Saint Leonard's Shoreditch on Nov 30th 1857.
There is a baptism record for St Matthew in Bethnal Green, May 9th (?) 1858 which is virtually illegible. It looks as if she was born in January 1858. I cannot read where her parents were living but someone who knows London better might be able to.
In the 1861 census the family is in Congleton, Cheshire and Mary Ann is aged 3. She has a younger brother Benjamin who is aged 1. Benjamin's birth was registered in Bethnal Green March 1/4 1859. This confirms mother Mary Ann's maiden name to be Smith.
The corner of the 1861 census record is missing so I cannot read where daughter Mary Ann was born. In 1871 she is in London with her grandparents, she is 13 and her birth place is recorded as Mile End.
Mary Ann emigrated to Canada & in a census there, records her birth date as January 25th 1862 but this isn't possible. If this is the same Mary Ann, she was 3 in 1861.
A Mary Ann Conner married a Samuel Calver in 1880 in Mile End Old Town. It is this Mary Ann who moved to Canada. In the 1881 census she is recorded as being 22, which gives either an early 1859 or late 1858 birth.
Basically I want to prove that this is the correct Mary Ann Conner so I either need her birth certificate which I ca get a pdf of instantly, or I can order her marriage certificate but I am in France and this is expensive - and it causes a delay - so finding her birth is easier. Any help appreciated!
