I was wondering if Frederick Joseph Bell was the illegitimate son of Rebecca Bell of Wisbech, born c1826.

1841: Russell Street, Wisbech St Peter, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire
Rebecca Bell Female 35 1806 Cambridgeshire
Joseph Bell Male 15 1826 Cambridgeshire
Caroline Bell Female 5 1836 Cambridgeshire
Elizabeth Bell Female 70 1771 Cambridgeshire

Rebecca's death reported in the Cambridgeshire Free Press on 8th September 1849, and Caroline was in the workhouse in 1851. Buried on 4th September.
Elizabeth died Q1 1850, aged 87.

Massey Cross had children in the same period but no Frederick or Joseph.

It would be interesting to see the two marriage certificates.

David

LizzieW - I just entered Frances Ranby under the "Britain - all categories" and that was the first entry.

I was probably trying to hard, I went to Newspapers and then had to put in county, etc.!!

Rhanks all for your reserearch

A nuisance that the newpapers are more keen to tell us the date of their report rather than the date of the Marriage. However it would seen to have been 28 Dec 1861 Wesleyan Chapel, Stamford, Lincs
I think Frederick Joseph Bell was possibly illegitimate or fostered by Massey Cross & his wife Elizabeth (nee Meadows) though he never appeared with them on the 1841 C (aged 12) I have neen unable to find his parents

Mary Ann Short's father was John a Farmer/Farrier

At their m on 6.7.1848 F J was recorded as 32 so b @1816, she 21, he a Porter, she a Servant, her father John a Farmer, his, Massey Cross a Porter. In 1851 C, Fred J was b @1828 Wisbech/Whittlesea. In 1861 he was b @ 1828, so m age was more like 20 rather than 32!

Death date unknown - last time recorded 1901 C in Clee with Wheelsby aged 79 - a 1903 d fits but that F J B was aged 0!
