Hello GeoffW, that should certainly help ScotsResearcher!

May I ask you to have a look in your book for

William Meldrum & Son, Tayport, Fifeshire -

Tayport = Ferry Port on Craig and they had a Mill. I found something on NAS re: this company that would indicate that they went bankrupt in about 1874. I have a suspicion that this William might be my 3G Grandfather.

thanks,

Lindsay

Thanks, GeoffW, your information certainly adds to my picture of the Currie family in Elie in the 19c - and good luck with your Ovenstone research.

I've realised how much it helps if families stayed put in one area- I have no idea which part of Scotland this Currie branch moved to Elie from, c second half of 18c- early 19c. If I was able to access  parish records does anyone know if they would show places where people were born (eg on marriage and death records)?
thanks

Hello Scotsresearcher, unfortunately not.

Obviously the birth certificates show where someone was born but unless the death certificate is from 1855 (the best!!) they don't show where the person came from and marriage certificates also not.  The marriage certificates do show where the person was living at time of marriage but only those after 1855. The OPR records (before 1855) don't tell very much at all ..........

regards,

Lindsay
