Phillip was buried in Yew Tree on 11 June 1971,just the location of his grave is 'not known'
I would try the cemetery office first, perhaps another burial the same day might lead somewhere. long shot, but sometimes you have to go sideways to get an answer.

The council cemetery office may not have access to the RC burials registers they are (as far as I know) held by the RC Diocese
There's a contact no here, but at this time of the year the office may be closed?https://www.liverpoolcatholic.org.uk/department/finance/ancestry-enquiries

Is the Central Library open today? If so then their microfilms may cover later than 1965 and you should be able to find the grave number there.

This is the section plan for Yew Tree
https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~hibernia/genealogy/bur/yewcem.htm
and this is the list of section usage- public (rights to further burials in the grave space not purchased) and private (rights for future burials purchased)
https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~hibernia/genealogy/PDFs/Yew_Tree_Section_Usage.pdf

NB thats an old site and the lookup service hasn't been available for a long time.

The above links should help to pin down the area your Granda was buried in, if it was a public grave there will be no headstone, just a grassed area.

If you have never used the British Newspaper Archive before you can register and get 3 page views/downloads for free
https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/account/register

Does this then link to the Liverpool Echo notices page for 8/6/1971? :-\
https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000271/19710608/074/0004

It's also on findmypast newspapers and on newspapers.com
