Fair enough. Thanks for pointing that out. Even after a day of inspecting records carefully I still managed to confuse an Albert with an Alfred.

That being the case, the only known child to the family of Alfred Boyle Crofts & Naomi Jane Jarmain is Augusta born in 1871.

You won't be sure until you get her birth certificate.

As you pointed out no children for 22 years and Naomi would have been 39 years old.

I wonder if this 1870 newspaper report could be related to Albert's name change in 1871.  His daughter Louisa lists him as a Jeweller when she married in 1884

Excellent work, Kay.

This would give a motivation for him to change his name in or by 1871; ie to avoid people to whom he owed money.

I will be delighted to see any more information on this man that can be found.
He seems to have been a bit of a rogue.

He or one of his siblings is DNA-related to William TJ Beverton 1848 and the best-fit scenario is that Albert (or his younger brother Alfred) was the father.

Hello again,

I'm trying to flesh out what I know about Alfred Boyle Crofts 1826, the younger brother to Albert Finney Crofts 1825. I can see in 1861 he is a "dealer in foreign trimmings" and in 1901 he is a clerk in a patent office. However, FamilySearch does not report his occupations in the other census years. Is anyone in a position to see what he was doing for a job in the other census years? Presumably these are shown on the original census records but not transcribed into the record summaries in FS.

1849 - marriage. Draper
1851 - Hosier
1871 - solicitor’s clerk
1881 - solicitor’s clerk
1891- C Clerk.   It’s not clear if the C means something or if it is just attempt no 1 at writing Clerk.
