How to find a death in Tasmania?
« on: Wednesday 18 December 24 19:32 GMT (UK) »
Hello and Happy Christmas to all,

I'm trying to find the death of a relative. He was born in Britain in 1922 and since there is a vague chance he could still be alive I can't name him here.
I know he was a radio operator in the Merchant Navy in the war, then married in 1948. Later, with his wife and 4 children, he emigrated to Tasmania (I don't seem to have noted the precise year - presumably around 1960 since he's had 4 children).

I presume he has died in Tasmania but I'm afraid I don't know how to find out.

I have searched ancestry, familysearch, the genealogist, and findmy past to no avail.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction please for a death in Tasmania probably from 1980 onwards?

Margaret

You are out of luck as the death would be too recent to be online (only available upto 1939).

There is information here about applying for certificates:

Without knowing any more details we can't help you further, eg looking for an obituary.

As the same undertaker was used for Mum and Son's Funeral maybe an email to Finney's asking for the cemetery or Crematorium might lead you to their Memeorials (hopefully there is one) and fingers crossed you might find "Len"

Thank you very much to all those who have replied, including the private message.
Those of you who researched for me, found the right person...thank you.
I have submitted a query to the Tasmania Library Service, so we'll see what they come up with, eventually. As I've said, he might still be alive at 102!
