SAILOR'S WIFE'S RELIEF FRAUD "Needed Money To Buy Children's Clothes" Stated to have fraudulently obtained over £360 poor relief since November 29, 1941, by representing she was a widow with five children and had no means, whereas she had married a naval man on that date, and was getting an allowance from the Navy of £2 12s. a week, Ruby Mabel Violet Stouchbury, of Tavistock Crescent, North Kensington, was sentenced by Mr. Ivan Snell to one month's imprisonment for wilfully making the false statement. Defendant, it was stated, said she had no excuse to offer for not disclosing the change in her circumstances brought about by the marriage, but said she needed the money provide clothing for her children.
