Deciphering WW1 medical

I cannot decipher the first disability recorded here for this WW1 soldier ..Any help would be much appreciated.

2 is 'deafness - varicose veins'
3 is 'otitis media'

1 = Acute Mastoiditis?
   = a bacterial infection in your mastoid — the big bone behind your ear.

Would fit with deafness and otitis media (also known as a middle ear infection, is an inflammation of the middle ear that causes fluid to build up behind the eardrum).
