Oh, thankyou all so much. You are a clever lot.

Just like my Christmas lights that I got from the loft earlier, this is a tangled knot which I will leave until the morning to sort out.

My initial reaction is that there were 2 Beveridge families having children baptised in Morpeth.

thankyou, Peewee

According to Ward's 1850 directory, John Beveridge was at 35 Newgate Street, Newcastle and employed at Plumbers Hall Academy, West walls, Newcastle.

https://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/digital/collection/p16445coll4/id/212133/rec/7

However he is not at 35 Newgate Street in 1851. The reference for this address is

Sub-registration district    St Andrew
ED, institution, or vessel    05
Household schedule number    95
Piece    2405

Page number    21

1855 Slaters directory just gives his Academy address, 5 West Walls

Not having any luck finding John, but a possible sighting of daughter Mary age 18, as a servant in a BELL family in 1851. Head is James Bell, perhaps a relation to her mother Mary Bell?

J Beveridge was at 35 Newgate Street in July 1851, see below.

Is it possible that at the time of the census he was visiting relatives following his wife's death? She died on the 15th March, the census date was 30th March.

It's of no use in your 1851 search, but you might like to know that your man was secretary of the 'Mellona Fair Sex Society'  :D

Merry Christmas to you too! :D

It's a great pity there is no birth registration for William Shoolbread, it would have given you Mary's maiden name. It might have said Bell, it might not!
You could perhaps treat yourself for Christmas and splurge out Ł3 for the (instant!) digital image of his death in 1840, age 2. Perhaps just to see whether you can work out why neither the old nor new GRO entries indexed him as Beveridge.
