Locating grave ( but what if he was cremated)
« on: Sunday 01 December 24 16:31 GMT (UK) »
My partner and I are on Ancestry and are trying to find out if her GG uncle John William Coley 1899-1972 was buried or cremated , he died in Chestnuts care home in Ross on Wye in 1972 ( no longer there ) I’ve searched the relevant council cemetery records but nothing appears.

Can anyone give us a starter for ten on how to find out if he was buried or cremated , do cremation lists exist?

He was born William John Coley but didn’t seem to ever use that version of his name , his first and Second World War service also used the name John William Coley

Herefordshire Archive and Records Office may be of help  :-\

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Any idea where/when his wife Edith died, he may be buried with her.

Herefordshire history.org.uk

They have online readable editions of the Ross Gazette, including 1972.

The announcements section may show details for funeral.

If you have only searched the relevant Council Cemetery records it would not show a burial in a Churchyard or necessarily cremations. I suggest that you actually contact the Council and ask if they have a record of a cremation. There may be a charge for a search.
