Sarah ? Happisburgh, Norfolk, 1673
« on: Sunday 01 December 24 11:15 GMT (UK) »
Opinions welcome on this surname for Sarah. Wondered if it might be Ryell but not sure now. Marrying Robert Heasleton in 1673.
Thanks.

I'd incline more to something like Rostill or Rostell.

If you look at Elizabeth Hastings (second in 1671), there are some similarities in the -st- combination of letters.

Hi,

There seems to be a Royal(l) Rogall (Transcription error I think) in the locality at around that time. On FindmyPast.

Thanks David Nicoll and trish1120 for this useful information. It does seem to fit Sara Ryall of 23 Jun 1646. I suspect the names Ryall and Royal were easily mixed up, especially with local dialects.

I agree in the main with horsleydown - there are seven letters in the name although I see the ending as 'lell' not 'tell'. The scribe's  t is much straighter and thicker. Also the preceding letter doesn't look like other y's in the text. I'm inclined to Reslell, but what that represents is another matter.
