baptism/birth marriage lookups if poss please?
« on: Wednesday 11 August 04 14:59 BST (UK) »
Could some kind soul do a lookup for baptsim records for Walcot, Bath, don't know which parish) please? The address of the birth is on 29/07/1909 at 38 Avon Street, Walcot, Bath, Somerset.  The baptisms I wish to find are Sidney Young and Dorothy Young(twins), Emily Young(formerly Wheeler)and Charles Young, both named on birth certificate of my father(Sidney Young).   Emily was born in Lydiard Millicent around 1863 or thereabouts from what I know and was obviously in Walcot when the twins were born in 1909.  Charles Young I'm not sure about, but maybe born Bath possibly 1860/1870s.
Could proof of Charles and Emily's marriage be found too from these details of the twins birth and is it possible to look it up?
Regards

Mary Young

Hi Alli.  Thanks so much for that information.  We do already have all that information on that particular Emily Wheeler, and were wondering ourselves if she could have been married before she married Charles Young.  I have recently found out, however that Charles Young died in Salford on 16 November , 1937 aged 64.  As his death was registered by my Uncle Carl M Lawless, his age is accurate as far as I know. Carl is Charles's son-in-law(my aunt Joanna's husband)now both deceased.  The address Charles was living when he died  is given on the death certificate as 1 Collier Street, Salford. Lancashire(now Greater Manchester) and place of death 91 Eccles Old Road, Salford. (this, I take to be Hope Hospital, Salford).  He is buried at Agecroft Cemetery. His occupation is given as Jobbing Gardener.  We have not been able to find out from his death certificate when or where he was born, nor have we yet discovered a marriage between him and Emily Wheeler.  As far as Emily who married Fred Woolford is concerned, Fred was still alive in 1901 according to the 1901 census.  As my aunt Joanna was born around 1903/4 it would mean that Emily could not have been with Charles at that time, unless they were having an affair.  As Charles only brought 3 children with him to Salford around 1924/5 it makes me wonder where the rest of the children were as my aunt Joanna told me there were 8 or 9 children in all, all girls, apart from my father Sidney Young.  Emily did not come with him to Salford.  My aunt Joanna apparently always talked of her father, Charles as a military man, but never talked about her mother Emily.  Strange as my father named his daughter from his first marriage, Emily, after his mother. (my father was a widower when he married my mum).  The only marriage between a Charles Young and an Emily Wheeler that can be found is one in Liverpool in 1914.  Without knowing what's on this certificate, we cannot ascertain if this is our Grandparents or not.  As Charles was a military man, according to my aunt Joanna  perhaps he was stationed in Liverpool or something.  But that means they weren't married when my father and his twin sister were born in 1909, which means all three children he brought with him were born out of wedlock.  Apparently my aunt Joanna had a visit from her Wheeler relatives at some point, I believe around the 1970s, but they did not acknowledge my father was their brother for some reason and from what my cousin says, they were called Wheeler and not Young.  This makes them then, half siblings to my father.  I know Joanna was Young and I presume my aunt Ellen, who came to Salford with Charles.  Joanna would have been around 20 years old at the time. Ellen, I'm not sure if she is older or younger, but my father was around 14/15 years old.  I can only presume that the others were not Charles's children, but if she was married before, perhaps they could have been called Woolford.  It is so confusing.  Sorry if I've confused you with all this info Alli.  I have to type it as I think it or I'll forget it lol.  I'll send any more info I can remember as I remember it.  Is there any way we can find out if this Emily and Charles who were married in Liverpool in 1914 is our grandparents without actually buying the certificate.  I'm only on incapacity benefit so can't really afford to send willy nilly for certificates unless I'm sure it's them.  It is such a minefield, with all these Charles Youngs and Emily Wheelers isn't it.  Thanks again Alli for your info.  Bet you'll have a headache after you've finished reading this.  Sorry!  Look forward to hearing from you.

God bless

Mary Young
