Place of Birth on Census
« on: Friday 29 November 24 16:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

What might this place of birth be on the 1851 Census? The one above the red line. This census was taken in Warrington, Lancashire/Cheshire. The other birthplaces beneath his are "Wales", and "Lancashire, Warrington"

One transcription has it as "Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire" which I'm not sure I believe.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

Have you found this person on other census records please? Or a baptism or marriage?

Just wondering if the birth place is clearer - although I don't expect you would be asking if you had found them previously!
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Could you please give us the name of the person and the reference, sometimes it has been copied clearer on other sites

Sadly not. His name is Joseph Williamson and only appears to my knowledge in this 1851 census with his wife Mary (from Wales, nee Roberts) and his kids. His approximate date of birth from the census is 1795.

His wife appears on the 1841 census in Warrington (address is "back of brick street") but I've never found him on it, and it seems he dies in 1857 so no more later censuses sadly! He marries in St Elphins, Warrington in 1820, but no birthplace given.

Could you please give us the name of the person and the reference, sometimes it has been copied clearer on other sites

I had thought it might have been Bolton as the first letter looks like a B to me, I just couldn't find any record at all of a Joseph Williamson in Bolton or Poulton, but I will check Preston as well. Thanks so much for trying to decipher the unexpectedly tough place name lol.
