Diary summary week ending 1st December 2024

Bought some stamps last week - but realise not enough. Realise need another 20 cards, too, when this morning I sat down to update my card list. Oh dear.
Difficult week car & weather wise - snow, ice etc last weekend took me hours and hours to get my old car driveable, then as OH feeling very seedy, I had to venture through ice and slush and worse, with people zooming through floodwater as well - I drive an old Landrover, but go sensibly and slowly in such conditions - to do a needed supermarket shop. OH's much newer, younger Japanese 4WD car wouldn't start at all a few days later when we tried - blessings on AA Homestart. It's much younger battery was a Dodo, new one fitted by AA man.
So a lovely start to the week.
Radstockjeff, I've had my pacemaker for nearly a year now, I realise. The whole business took only a few hours, I was able to watch it as the surgeon did it, via a screen, and after a check up a few weeks later I was able to drive again. So far all seems well. Be glad, as I am, that some clever people invent these things. Wish someone could sort my printer so it would scan, again - iy no longer wants to! Drat.

Ty, technology  is very frustrating  frequently,

Busy weekend for me, church bazaar yesterday  after setting it all up on Friday,  fortunately was a dry day yesterday otherwise we might not have got so many people in, was also  the Christmas tree festival,  today family service 2 hours later than usual and I was on refreshments also the Christmas  tree festival again today,  sponsored by various clubs, there is a winner, I voted for the local fire station  because as I went into Church yesterday it was the first to  catch my eye but the knit and natter one  was fantastic,  it is surprising what Christmas dinner items can be knitted and to decorate a tree, all very impressive

Then sadly when I returned home I heard my cousin has died today, 92, a very good age but the last year she has suffered, had several falls  and spent time in hospital, was adamant she was not going into a home, could had afforded the best 5 star home but no, she wouldn't give in, she went down fighting as they say.

Very cold today although no frost this morning.

Yes a good age ,but quality of life is important too isn’t it.
You are a very busy person too L.M.and many others in R,C, too.
I now can’t do so much and I loved doing the Church bazaars etc ,really social  occasions.

Son back today, but later as in the office this morning, so it will be evening
before he gets back.

I kept getting warnings that RootsChat was not a safe site ,impersonating RC,

A dull very wet day , washing on maidens inside .
Am knitting a baby blanket ,pink and white wool in moss stitch. Did one fir grandchildren in pale turquoise and white ,no wrong stitches , this one is full of errors but it is me ,how I am now with all the 30+ years that have passed since the first one.So far down I can’t bear to unravel such a lot of work -100 stitches!
It will still keep Lily warm .

Cooked a small pork joint yesterday so just vegetables today
Had to buy a bag of Bramleys instead of  just one for the mincemeat , so will make and freeze the rest so apple sauce done for Christmas .Not much else to do is there!

What about Greg Wallace——— I bet he shopped at Harrod’s!!!
What a crass remark about his victims!

Christmas shopping in our nearest big town/small city this morning.  We have a good bus service with a friendly driver - everyone knows his name.  Unfortunately the last bus returning to our village leaves at 13.50, so it's been a bit of a rush this morning.  Exeter was very busy even on a Monday, so I guess everybody had the same idea as I did.  I bought lots of stocking fillers for my grandchildren  and found 3 sweaters for myself, one rather fancy one for a Christmas party on Saturday night and 2 nice ones for everyday.  Lucky me!  I was supposed to be buying something from my son and something else from my husband, so that's plenty of stuff crossed off the list.  My husband has already got his from me. It's a winter coat and he's already wearing it! I'll have to find a little something to wrap up for him.
 My daughter always selects and buys stuff for her family, so we just pay for it and feel pleased that they receive something they wanted.  Then we wrap it up and present it.  It's a good system and means that they are not disappointed. 

We are gearing up for a village Christmas concert and the choir has some interesting songs/carols to sing.  We shall also be walking round the village singing carols outside the houses and collecting for Save the Children.  I've had my Christmas haircut (another tick), but the cake is waiting to be iced and I have yet to make the mince pies.  The pudding has been quietly maturing away for some time now.  Decorations up this weekend, I think.  My husband will have to go up into the loft to find them.  I do love Christmas and the family get-together, though the other part of my family is at the other end of the country.

Let’s hope things are alright.

It is dark already,has rained all day .
Just waiting for son to return ,no use cooking but all is ready to do so, he usually isn’t hungry after a long drive ,always likes an omelet ,so the cooked meal can wait for tomorrow.

I am confused!
The weather forecast on internet (BBC.co.uk/weather) says light winds tonight (3mph to 9mph) and tomorrow (3mph to 15mph) but strong winds Wednesday evening (42mph to 48mph).
We get this a lot since Meteo Group took over the forecasts!

Manx Radio says:
Tonight: Light to moderate northerly winds and temperatures falling to 0°C in places
Tomorrow: The light and variable wind will settle to the southwest and freshen in the afternoon

AAAaaaaarrrgh!!!
This has been a week for disasters!
Now trying in vain to thread up an overlocker correctly - started trying last afternoon, gave up in frustration. Tried online videos - absolutely no help, fingers of demonstrator always seemed to be in the way!
-Oh, and still can't persuade my printer to scan images and let me store them for further use in "scans" folder.

Am i sure that technology is progress? Please pass me a sheet of parchment, a  goose-quill pen, and some oak gall ink.

Oh T.Y.——— I really feel the same ,no on many ways things are not progressing ,to put stuff on files when I could go to “ackshull “physical folders  and find exactly what I want and put them back in the cupboard.
I can have as many files out as I need ,without any problems.
No one else has access to them - only the company-/ organisation I am dealing with.
Wind the clock back please !

I have a sore foot! My trusty shopping trolley, lives in the vestibule all folded down.To keepit in place without falling over I use an antique very heavy iron door stop .in the shape of a dog ,well the dog fell over onto my foot - OUCH !
Now it feels as if I am walking on something sharp!Perhaps one of the tiny foot bones has cracked .
I will wait and see, it will get worse or better.

A bright sunny cold day so washing on the line.
Have polished up two proper paraffin lamps, really old ones like we had in the deep countryside of Shropshire until electricity arrived in the 1950’s
A lovely copper kettle and some huge oriental brass trays which hung in our Victorian house.
They would be ridiculous here .
So Charity shop or our local theatre for props.
Well.low battery so must close.
Look after yourselves folks.
