Welcome to RootsChat LeGrand.
I agree with others that the idea that your ancestor may have been a herring girl sounds plausible.
She may also have come to work in service, perhaps or been sent to relatives or friends in the area of whom you may be unaware about.

If you wish I could try to look for a baptism in the North Shields area if you might be able to supply more fuller information.  There are Anglican and Mission baptisms at North Shields local studies, which I could look at if you are not able to check yourself.
It would be helpful to know his Mother’s name and his date of birth.

Thank you for sending the details.
I will check things out for you from the resources that will be available to me at the North Shields local studies.  It may take a few weeks to get back there what with work and Christmas coming up - but I will check things out as soon as I can.
Just one more thing - do you know which Church denomination your ancestor's Mother may have been associated with?  This might help with deciding which Church records to look at first.  Unfortunately, the Local Studies does not have Catholic records but they do have Anglican and some 'Mission' records around birth date provided.
If I can find anything I will pm details to you.
I will also post publicly just to say if I have been successful or not in finding anthing (without revealing details) - I believe we RootsChatters like to have closure regarding things even if details are not made public to all.  ;) I know I always like to know if something is 'solved'. :)

Hi LeGrand,
I had an appointment today which took a lot less time than anticipated so I popped in to the Local Studies afterwards and searched various resources (based on  birth year/Mother’s name/and your ancestor’s assumed Surname) which included Middle Street Mission, Christ Church, Holy Trinity, Holy Saviour, St Faith, St Peter, (North Shields) and even Howdon Panns and Willington  Churches.
It could be that your ancestor may have been baptised elsewhere for all we know but I have only been able to look at what was available to me.
I could find nothing that could tie in nicely.  I found nothing at all under the ‘assumed’ surname.  I found one name under the Mother’s surname.  This was in Holy Saviour, Tynemouth.  However, baptism date is several years later than birth date you have sent me and the first name of Mother does not match.
The Father of this child has 2 names but I would not know if second name is his middle name or a surname.  This Father was a Fisherman.  There is only a baptism date given for this child.  Some entries also gave an actual birth date.
This is probably not your ancestor but I will pm the details just in case these parents can tie in somewhere with what you know about your ancestors.
Also, it can’t be ruled out that this could be your ancestor with a later baptism and the Mother may have given a false first  name.
The entry for this one has a note at the top recording ‘At St Andrew Mission Church’ even though it is recorded in Holy Saviour.  I cross referenced St Andrew, Mission and there is mysteriously nothing recorded in their records.

I will pm the details and leave it up to you to decide if there might be anything of interest in the entry.

I spent I a bit of time at the Local Studies checking this out.  It would be nice if you could post if the name I sent by pm relates to the person you are interested in.

Probably not, but it is nice to know the outcome even if turns out to be not the hoped for one.  You don't need to post details as it seems you want this private.
But it would be nice to have some feedback about how successful or not all my researching was. :-\

Hello River Tyne Lass

I'm so sorry I thought I had replied to your PM but I see it didn't go through, sorry about that.

My reply was to say thank you very much for taking the time to look that up. It was much appreciated and wishing you a lot Christmas.

Thanks again, all the best.

Thanks for your thanks but I am still in the dark about whether the people named on the entry I found have any relevance to your enquiry.

No problem at all. No, unfortunately they were different names and dates.
