Images of church registers from Guilsfield - 18th/19th century
« on: Thursday 21 November 24 02:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am researching the Cadwallader (and variant spellings) family who lived in and around Guilsfield, Meifod and Peniarth in the mid to late 1700s and earlier.

I have found the marriage of John Cadwalader to Mary Ellis on the 31st January 1779 at Guilsfield. Both are recorded as being from that parish. I have viewed the image on FindmyPast.

My mother had done alot of research before I joined her. In those days it was all microfiche/microfilm records viewed at our local LDS library and the IGI. In 1995 she employed a researcher from Cheshire to look into the family and discover whatever he could find out. I have copies of the letters to and fro and in one of the letters Mum has sent, she mentions the marriage of "John Cadwallader of Tyr-Y-Mynach and Mary Ellis".

My question is where would she have got this information? I trust her methods and process so feel she must have got this from a film she viewed at the LDS library but why can I not find that same record now? I've searched the LDS catalog via FamilySearch but can only find the FindmyPast image. Any ideas? I would really like to confirm the village that John Cadwallader may have been from.

You don't give us any idea of dates for this marriage  :)

Being "from this parish" or "of this parish" simply means that's where the person was when the banns were called. ;)

The phrase offers no clues as to where the person was born.

In addition to FindMyPast, your mother could have found them in ~

the Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society who have published marriages in booklet form.

Also, there are extensive records produced by Bill Barker on disk. Montgomery Families. See https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~bebbfamilyhistory/genealogy/montfams.htm

I have them somewhere and will have a look for you later, if you'd like.

I think someone might have produced it in non-disk form for their own use!

I did the same  but for the complete set  as my  Montgomery ancestors where everywhere :)
