Hi, Please have a look at the underlined text in this 1674 Bond downloaded from the Library of Wales.
Is Hugh Beavan a Yeoman or a Gentleman?

Well I'd say it starts with a 'g' Llanfihangel, comparing that letter to the 'g' in Hugh's name on the line above.
Is there a 'y' somewhere in the text to compare it to?

I see the other man, William de Battell, is given the same nomenclature. Any idea who he was? if he was the local squire then you may able able to deduce they were both 'gentlemen'.

It says gen with a backward curling line at the end to indicate that the word is abbreviated, so both are gentlemen.

Hello Goldie61 1nd GR2 😊The other Bounder was Humphrey Williams Gent of Battle, so it is likely that Hugh Beavan was also a "gent". The squiggle before the "gent" may have been "idem"  latin for "same" (In the same Parish of Battle, Breconshire.
