A correspondent wrote……..

as I took her there in Sids big Chrysler to see some family.   I could hardly touch the peddles I was 17

Inwrote that I had the following oh Florry
On the one hand according the 1939 List.

Florence Mareden b. 23 Sept.1914
Living with Sidney Brown b. b. 30 May 1913, HGV Driver, ARP aux fireman were living at 6 Elcaat Terrace with John W. Routlege b. 13 June 1899 general labourer, motor driver car and lorry, and, his wife Ethel. b. 13 Jan. 1898
Here is also a Marjorie Sutherland, single, b.   12 December 1918

According to another account of Florence, she was born in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, England. She married Sydney J Brown in June 1941. She died in February 2001 in Darlington, Durham, England.


I am in contact with someone who used to work for Sidney.
He has indicated that he thought Sidney’s wife was nee Black.


I checked BMD Register and found

Marriages Mar 1936   
Black  Mary E  Brown  Kendal  10a 1063 

But’ can not get a result to find the surname of the  Brown that MaryE. Black married.

Can any Rootschaters help me to find out?

The MarriageFinder at FindMyPast says that the Mary E Black marriage, 1936, Kendal was to a John Brown.

I’m giving up on this now, but just in case anyone else is trying, the 1939 record referred to is at Elcoat Terrace, Crook and Willington, Co Durham. The couple are Sidney and Florence Brown (not sure where Mareden [Marsden?] came from).

The 1939 register was taken on Friday 29 September. A Q4 marriage would be after this date (Oct - Dec) Unless there is a delay between marriage date and registration date ? Can that happen?
