Hi my research was for my husbands grandfather,,, he was the older brother born John mulligan 1879 Widnes,, he was a mystery,, after 30yrs of research and lots of wasted paper work my husband did a DNA test, We were told grandad eloped with grandmother ww1, yes he, absconded from the army ended up in Birkenhead. 1916 had 7 children but didn't marry grandma till 1927,, always wondered why,,,. Dna put me in touch with a young man who explained grandad had been married before,, he embessled the fireman's and sailors Union was imprisoned for a few months then imprisoned again for deserting his wife and children,,
Then he just disappeared so his wife remarried,,
So yes l working from Martin and Bridget mulligan from swineford Mayo,,, My husbands grandfather was a secretary for the union in Avonmouth,, we were always told he was very political and followed mannie shinwell and others connected with the great strike 1911,
We never believed any of it but it's, all come true he then joined the army, he was also billeted at Balcombe sussex,, where he met grandma he told his children he was guarding the viaduct,, In 1917 the military police were looking for him,, l was sent a copy of a news cutting about this from a rootschat team Member,, this cutting gave an address in Birkenhead which was his last known address,, and also it gave the same address that my husbands father was born,, grandma was pregnant,, grandad then joined the merchant ships,, l found all the other siblings except for Martin but thanks to you l can now carry on my husbands tree, eda
