Thomas Hamer 1776-1831
« on: Thursday 14 November 24 12:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks,
Just going back to some research a few years ago.

Thomas Hamer  1776-1831 married Catherine Thay 1776-0000.  Cannot find their marriage date.
Parents of Thomas:  James Hamer 1740-1761 married Betty Mills 1740-1761 in 1752 and then married Mary Marsh 1741-1797 in 1762.
Have the children of  Thomas and Catherine.
Grateful for assistance finding the marriage of Thomas and Catherine.

Thank you
Steve62

I think you need to check the dates you have posted.
If James Hamer married Betty Mills 1752 and she was born 1740 she would be 12 years old!

Lanc's OPC has Betty Hills marrying James Hamer 10 October 1758 St Peter Bolton. James was a weaver.

Hi,
Ooops!
Very sorry that was typing error and should have read "1758".  Mixed it up with a note on something else and another error of mine the surname.

Right re-read all my notes to get facts  straight.

James Hamer was born 1740 in Bolton-le Moors. Forget death date - no idea where that came from, probally a mix up by me.
He was resident in Wigan in April 1762 and married Mary Marsh in 1762 of Bolton-le-moors.
My notes state he married Betty Hills/Mills in 1752 and her dates are b.1740 d. 1761.
So a year after the death of Betty he married Mary.
I was in contact, years ago with a Hamer who searching the Hamer family tree and who gave info on the Hamers from 1680 up to 1740 ie James Hamer 1761-000.  Seems they did not find marriage of Thomas Hammer to Catherine Thay, but had their children down and I followed on from there.

My grandfather Joseph Aloyisius Hamer was from either Lankeshire or Sheffield England, do think Lankeshire.  He would have been born around 1896 perhaps earlier, married Mary Coughlin from Cork, Ireland. She was raised or lived for a time in a convent school.  She was also born near 1896.  They had 2 children in England, Joseph & Margaret (Peggy), moved to Canada & had another daughter Theresa. Grandpa Joseph, had a stiff leg from an earlier baseball injury that injured his kneecap.  Gramma Mary passed away from cancer in her 40's.  Grandpa Joseph passed away in his 70's.  Both buried in Toronto Canada.

Do you have this marriage certificate which would show their fathers names and help us establish whether they are related to Steve62's Hamers

Additional info for Hamer is that J Aloyisius son Joseph had a wife (Maureen?) and they had 2 sons (Bryan & ?) born in early-mid 1940's. The mother and boys returned to England where the younger boy died of influenza & the older boy went into Navy having a career there.

Sorry, I have no written information.  I saw Mary Coughlin's birth certificate once when young in the possession of my aunt...her daughter.  My aunt now being deceased...I dont know where the birth certificate ended up.  This same aunt years before had a tragic fire and lost 5 children...many things were destroyed & not replaced.
