Ancestry Pro Tools Seminar
« on: Wednesday 13 November 24 22:50 GMT (UK) »

I attended an Ancestry Pro Tools: Taking Your Family Tree to the Next level seminar tonight.  I was extremely pleasantly surprised at what I learnt!!!  I recommend checking it out in their Education section if you havent already.  This Part 1 focussed on the non DNA aspects.  Some highlights for me:-

1) Fan Views - and the ability to vary the number of generations.  Excellent summaries to send to friends and family AND an instant overview of where your brickwalls and gaps are

2)  Ahnentafel Charts - I admit I hadnt heard of them but again, excellent succinct summaries for yourself or friends and family

3) Time Mapper - wonderful ability to slice and dice your ancestors by birth, event and every which way and to map them all by country and down to  UK/Ireland county

4) Smart filters - find all your ancestors born in a certain town/region during a certain period and a whole lot more

5) Shared Matches Sort - as a teaser for the next seminar which will focus on DNA aspects of Pro Tools, she revealed that you can now sort your DNA Shared Matches by the 3rd person's relationship and also by date of test. This is simple but very useful indeed!!  I had obviously been oblivious to this for 2 weeks since it was introduced

6) Loads more

I see a new feature was added in a vain attempt at upselling ProTools

I have a 6.6 rating on my tree - it seems I have too many errors to be perfect but if I upgrade I can get rid of duplicates and fix my tree!

I know where my errors are - I mostly couldnt be bothered ( yet ) in filling out birth and death dates for married partners of 33rd cousins 12 times removed

Yes I assume I do have duplicates but I will find them

But sure lets pay more money for Ancestry to use our trees to do their work for them
